Fall Classic Game 7 Attracts 51M Audience Members Across the US, Canada and Japan Regions.

The exciting extended clash that saw the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total 51 million viewers across the United States, Canadian, and Japanese territories. MLB reported this marks the highest-rated World Series finale after the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

The Saturday memorable contest drew over 27 million audience members on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It additionally stands as the most-watched World Series matchup since the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This represents a 16% improvement over the last Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked fourth, Game 4 was 7th, the fifth game was 8th, and Game 3 finished in 13th place.

Global Viewership Figures

In Canada, the game averaged 11.6 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English program in Canada after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest started at 9 PM local time, it drew 12M. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – drew over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Trends

The entire seven-game series drew 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership growth for two straight seasons.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total American average was over 16 million. The overall Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09 million watchers, an 8% increase over last year and the network’s best playoff ratings after 2017.

Major League Baseball announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by 44 media partners in 16 various tongues.
