Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences growing in power within the urban setting.

Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to begin their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might look out of place, but the actions of the third episode show why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group understands precisely where to go next after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his debts and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants revenge.
  • The adventurer has experience in the region and cautions that it is a hostile place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the team reach locations they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, Teor pledged a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The healer defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in search of the traitor.

Future Episodes

Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Explorers and Schemers tables.

Fans can anticipate discovering which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
