Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then found many other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say initial examinations indicate the substance was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; authorities are currently not aware of any injuries in association with the incident," they stated.
City officials announced they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the community for details.
An important official commented the attack made him speechless and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, referring to the death of nine people by a assailant aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
