2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently developing the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Leadership Shift Comes After Mixed Reception

Brinkman steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster early showing last autumn.

On Wednesday, the company's top executive a key figure updated employees about this decision through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had indicated the need for a more defined vision.

Ismailer expressed that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a refreshed approach, aiming to better meet player expectations.

Below is the full text from Ismailer's communication:

Team—

I know you all just wrapped up your town hall - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Previously I shared you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most driven and talented designers we have had the chance to partner with - and we’re excited for that relationship to continue.”

Through your commitment and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.

The player input from last fall’s the game playtest was revealing. It validated the potential of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had improvements to make. It uncovered the requirement for a clearer brand.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the criticism to heart and reimagined Project ETHOS with a refreshed goal - one that’s ready to achieve its ambition to our players.

The belief in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To advance the remarkable progress you’ve made, It is a pleasure to announce the new hire as the latest Director of 31st Union. Following several months of discussions, Ben officially joins us on Monday, October 20.

His guidance and expertise in the competitive gaming genre is vast, having spent the last 15 years creating and managing some of the most well-known series in gaming, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, the battle royale hit.

Please join me in greeting him next week. We are all looking forward to continue seeing the progress of Project ETHOS in the weeks to follow.

Experience of the Incoming Leader

The appointee presently serves in the role of senior developer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. Brinkman earlier worked at Treyarch and Activision in diverse development positions on the iconic franchise series, and, prior to that, had periods at other industry leaders.

Game Details and Concept

The upcoming game was announced in last year together with a early access event. Initially, 31st Union described the game as a "no-cost, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an exciting evolution on the genre."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in real-time to match your preferred approach," the official summary reads. "Challenge the opponents with fresh skills, risks, and challenges that shift every match. Will you leave securely with your hard-earned loot? Or aim high, put it on the line, and hope your group can secure victory? The decision is in your hands."

The game has not yet received an announced debut schedule or supported systems, but enthusiasts can look forward to further news as creation continues.
